Short answer
Skin booster aftercare aims to keep needle points clean and support the injections without irritating the skin. Skip make-up for the first hours; avoid sauna, hammam and hard exercise on the day; pause acids and retinol for a few days; wear sunscreen daily. Throughout the course, you plan your skin care in Denizli with Dr. Tuba Çelebi Kayhan.
At a glance
| First hours | Do not touch the needle points; no make-up |
|---|---|
| Treatment day | A break from sauna, hammam and hard exercise |
| First few days | No acids, retinol or exfoliating mitt |
| Every day | Broad-spectrum sunscreen |
| Next session | Two weeks apart throughout the course |
When the injections are finished, your face has dozens of tiny needle points. Each one is a minute opening in the upper layer of the skin, and it closes within a few hours. What you put on your skin in these first hours and the days that follow, how you cleanse it and how much sun it meets all affect both how comfortably it heals and the quality of the result.
A skin booster treatment uses hyaluronic acid to improve the hydration and radiance of the skin. Home care does not create this effect, but it protects it; the wrong product or a treatment done too early can irritate the skin and slow the progress of the course.
What Happens in the First Hours After a Skin Booster?
Straight after treatment, small bumps and redness appear at the injection points. These bumps are where the product was placed in the skin, and they go down within a few hours. If a bruise forms at a needle point, it can last a few days. A slight feeling of tightness or fullness in the skin is also normal.
During these hours it is enough not to touch your face, not to press on the bumps and not to wear make-up for the first hours. On the day of treatment we recommend staying away from saunas, the hammam and hard exercise; heat and sweating can make redness and swelling last longer.
Which Products Should You Use After a Skin Booster?
The rule for care in the first days is simplicity. A small number of fragrance-free, alcohol-free products that support the skin barrier is enough:
- Gentle cleanser: a soap-free, low-foaming facial cleanser that does not dry the skin
- Soothing moisturiser: barrier-supporting ingredients such as ceramides, glycerin or panthenol; unperfumed and simple in texture
- Hyaluronic acid serum: a serum focused only on hydration, without acids or retinol, can be used
- Broad-spectrum sunscreen: a product that protects against UVA and UVB, at least SPF 30
If your skin is oily, gel or light lotion moisturisers suit it; if it is dry, richer creams do. To simplify your home routine for your skin type, we can go through your products together at a skin care consultation in Denizli.
Which Products Should You Pause After a Skin Booster?
Acid products (AHA, BHA), retinol and similar vitamin A derivatives, and exfoliating mitts and grainy scrubs should be put aside for a few days. Although these products are useful on healthy skin, on fresh needle points they can cause stinging, redness and irritation. The same applies to high-strength vitamin C serums.
If you use a cream prescribed by a doctor for pigmentation or acne, we discuss on the day of treatment whether to pause it for a few days. Do not stop it or restart it early on your own.
When Can You Wear Make-Up After a Skin Booster?
No make-up is worn in the first hours. Foundation, powder or concealer applied while the needle points are open can carry germs into them and clog the pores. Once the points have closed and the bumps have gone down, you can go back to light make-up.
When you return to make-up, make sure your brushes and sponges are clean. You can cover any remaining bruise with concealer; dabbing the product on lightly instead of rubbing it in irritates the skin less.
How Should You Protect Your Skin From the Sun After a Skin Booster?
Sun is the main external factor that weakens the hydration and elasticity a skin booster aims for. So sunscreen should be part of your routine not only in the days after treatment but throughout the course and after it. Apply a broad-spectrum product of at least SPF 30 in a sufficient amount to the whole face; when you are outdoors, reapply it about every 2 hours, and sooner after sweating or swimming.
In the first days, not staying outside for long when the sun is strongest, wearing a hat and avoiding sunbeds help the skin recover more comfortably.
Can You Exercise After a Skin Booster?
We recommend taking a break from hard exercise on the day of treatment. Heavy training, running or exercising in a hot environment increases blood flow and sweating in the face, so redness and swelling can last longer. A short, gentle walk is fine.
Once the redness and bumps have passed, you can go back to your usual exercise. Waiting until the needle points have fully closed before going into a pool, and cleansing your face gently after training, are good habits.
How Should You Keep Up Skin Care Throughout the Course?
A skin booster is not a one-session treatment but a course given two weeks apart. Because the difference usually starts to show 2-4 weeks after treatment, the period between sessions is also part of the result. During this time, the following support the effect:
- Gentle cleansing morning and evening, followed by a moisturiser
- Sunscreen every morning, on cloudy days too
- Drinking enough water and sleeping regularly
- Staying away from smoking
If you are planning a new peel, laser or device treatment while the course is running, let us plan the timing together. Resurfacing treatments such as a chemical peel can be added to the same programme with the right interval, but they are not applied over fresh needle points.
When Should You Let Us Know After a Skin Booster?
Bumps and mild redness are expected reactions. The following signs, however, need to be assessed:
- Redness, warmth or pain that increases over the days instead of easing
- Discharge or an inflamed, spot-like bump at a needle point
- Signs of a cold sore around the lips or on the face
- Firmness you can feel that does not go away
In these situations, call us. If there is a sign of an allergic reaction, such as shortness of breath or swelling that spreads quickly across the face, go to the emergency department of the nearest hospital.
Follow-Up During a Skin Booster Course in Denizli
At each session we look at how your skin responded to the previous treatment. If there was dryness, redness or sensitivity, we change your home care accordingly, and extend or shorten the course if needed. If a different mix seems better suited to your skin quality, we also discuss options such as facial mesotherapy with mesolift. At our clinic in Denizli, once the course is over we also set the timing of a maintenance session by looking at the condition of your skin, in a way that keeps up the goal of better skin quality with hyaluronic acid.
