Short answer
Laser hair removal is possible in any season, but autumn and winter, when skin is least tanned, are the easiest time to start. Sessions are 8-10 weeks apart on the body and 4-6 on the face, with the area kept out of the sun in summer. In Denizli, Dr. Tuba Çelebi Kayhan fits sessions to your skin and holidays.
At a glance
| Easiest start | October to December |
|---|---|
| Before a session | No tanning or sunbeds for 1-1.5 months |
| Six body sessions | About 9-12 months with the intervals |
| In the summer months | Sessions continue, the area is kept out of the sun |
Wanting to be "ready for summer" with laser hair removal is understandable, but the calendar works backwards: if you want smooth skin in summer, the time to start is autumn. Because sessions are several weeks apart, a plan started in May will only reach one or two sessions before summer arrives.
When we plan laser hair removal in Denizli, we look at two things: how much colour your skin takes from the sun, and the session interval for the area being treated. The season is simply a tool for fitting these two together properly.
Which Season Is Right for Starting Laser Hair Removal?
Autumn and winter are the easiest time to start. In these months the skin loses most of the colour it picked up over the summer, and the contrast between hair and skin becomes clearer. The laser relies on this contrast, so we can set the energy with more confidence.
In winter, clothing already covers the treated areas, so you do not need to make a special effort to protect them from the sun after a session. A body plan started between October and December will have most of its sessions behind it by the first summer.
Why Does a Tan Affect Laser Hair Removal?
Hair removal lasers target the melanin pigment in the hair root. In tanned skin, the same pigment also increases in the skin itself. The laser light is then absorbed by the skin before it reaches the hair root; the effect drops and the risk of burns and later pigmentation rises.
This is why we ask you not to tan or use a sunbed for 1-1.5 months before treatment. Tanning creams and sprays also colour the skin, so they should not be used before a session. Brown marks that develop from the sun or from the wrong settings can be assessed for pigmentation treatment options, but the real aim is to stop these marks from forming in the first place.
Can You Have Laser Hair Removal in Summer?
Yes. Sessions continue all year round; what needs attention in summer is how much sun the treated area gets. From this point of view, areas fall into two groups:
- Areas that do not see the sun: in the underarms and the genital area, sessions usually carry on without interruption in summer too.
- Areas that see the sun: on the face, arms, legs, back and décolletage, we time the session around tanning; if the area is tanned, we postpone the session.
At every summer session we reassess your skin tone. For olive skin, or skin that tans easily, the deeper-reaching Nd:YAG laser may be preferred; choosing the laser type becomes even more important in the summer months.
After a session, apply a high-factor sunscreen to any exposed treated area every day and reapply it during the day. A wide-brimmed hat and light clothing that covers the legs back up the sunscreen.
How Do Session Intervals Shape the Calendar?
Hairs pass through growth, resting and shedding phases, and the laser works mainly on hair in the growth phase. That is why a set amount of time is left between sessions: 4-6 weeks on the face and 8-10 weeks on other parts of the body. Having a session early does not speed up the result; it simply misses the hairs that have not yet reached the surface.
Body areas need 6 sessions on average; with the intervals added, this plan takes around 9-12 months. The face and hormonal hair growth need 10 sessions on average, and the plan again spreads over close to a year. You can find more detail on how the number changes with the area and the type of hair in the answer to how many laser hair removal sessions you will need.
How Many Sessions Can You Fit in Before Summer?
Worked out from each area's session interval, the approximate number of sessions that can be completed by the start of June, depending on the month you start, is as follows:
| Start | Body areas (8-10 weeks apart) | Face (4-6 weeks apart) |
|---|---|---|
| Early October | 4-5 sessions | 6-9 sessions |
| Early January | 3 sessions | 4-6 sessions |
| Early April | 1-2 sessions | 2-3 sessions |
The table only shows the calendar; results vary from person to person. Even if the plan is not finished by early summer, with a body plan started in autumn the reduction and thinning of the hair is usually noticeable as summer begins.
What Happens if Your Sessions Are Interrupted Over the Summer?
Pausing an area over the summer does not spoil the plan. Some hair may grow during this time, but roots weakened by earlier sessions do not return to how they were. Once your tan has faded, we pick up where you left off.
If you plan to take a break, let us know when your session interval is up; we will set the restart date together based on the colour of your skin. Sessions for areas that do not see the sun can carry on in the meantime.
How Should You Prepare for Laser Hair Removal Before Summer?
- Throughout your course, do not wax, use an epilator, tweeze or thread; for the laser to work, the hair needs to stay in the root. Shave only, if needed.
- If you are about to start, stop methods that pull hair from the root at least a month beforehand.
- From spring onwards, apply sunscreen regularly to areas that see the sun.
- If you have started a medicine that makes you sensitive to sunlight, or an acne treatment, tell us before your next session.
- Mention your holiday dates when planning sessions, so that we do not book one just before a beach holiday.
Does the Season Matter for Light-Coloured Hair?
In blonde, red and white hair there is not enough pigment in the root, so the effect of hair removal lasers is clearly reduced; the season does not change this. For fine, light-coloured downy hair on the face and arms, one option is hair lightening with a Q-switched laser, which can be done in any season. This method does not remove the hair; it lightens its colour.
How Is a Laser Hair Removal Calendar Planned in Denizli?
At the first consultation we assess your skin tone and the colour and thickness of your hair, and choose the laser type. We then bring together the session intervals for the areas to be treated, your summer plans and your holiday dates in a single calendar.
